Squirrel City — last updated April 29, 2026
Squirrel City is a cozy game made by NorseHorse. We try to collect as little about you as we can while still letting the friend features work. This page explains exactly what we keep and why.
You can play without an account
The core game — building your city, watching the squirrels, taking walks, watching the seasons turn — works entirely on your device without an account. We do not collect anything from guest players.
An account is only needed if you want to back up your city to the cloud, sync between your devices, or add friends.
What we collect when you have an account
- Email address — for sign-in and password reset.
- Password — stored only as a one-way hash. We can't read your password and we can't recover it for you; if you forget it, you'll reset it via email.
- Display name — shown to friends you invite. Optional; defaults to a portion of your email if you don't provide one.
- City data — the structures you place, the squirrels who live in your city, your inventory, your journal, and the seasons your city has lived through.
- Friend connections — the user IDs of people you've added as friends, plus contributions you've made to each other's cities.
- Device push token — if you grant notification permission, an APNs token so we can deliver pushes when a friend leaves something in your city.
What we don't collect
- Your location.
- Your contacts, photos, microphone, or camera.
- Advertising identifiers.
- Behavior tracking across other apps.
How we use your data
- Run the game: place your structures, age your squirrels, sync your city across your devices.
- Connect you to friends you've invited.
- Send you push notifications about events in your city or your friends' cities (only if you've granted permission).
- Keep our service running: rate-limit abuse, debug crashes, restore corrupted saves.
How we don't use your data
- We don't sell your data, ever.
- We don't share it with advertisers.
- We don't use it to build a profile of you for anything outside Squirrel City.
Where your data lives
On servers we operate, in the United States. Connections to those servers are encrypted (HTTPS/TLS). Your password is hashed before it's stored. Your city data is associated with your account ID, not your email or device.
Your rights
- Sign out — at any time, from Settings → Sign out. Your data stays on the server, ready for your next sign-in.
- Delete your account in the app — open Settings, scroll to the bottom, tap "Delete account." After two confirmations, your account and all associated data (city, squirrels, memorials, friendships, journal, inventory) are permanently erased from our servers. This cannot be undone.
- Request a copy of your data — email support@squirrelcity.app from your registered email and we will send you a JSON export of your account and city.
Children
Squirrel City is rated 4+ but we ask that users be 13 or older to create an account, in line with COPPA and similar regulations. If you believe a child under 13 has registered, email us and we'll remove the account. The guest-mode (no-account) experience has no age restriction.
Changes to this policy
If we change anything material, we'll update the date at the top of this page and notify you in the app the next time you open it.
